The Rain Collector

11″ x 14″ pen and ink, watercolor collage

I recently finished this piece which is a bit of a mixed media/collage artwork. I did the main subject of the image as a pen and ink (on watercolor paper) and backed it with sticky mounting adhesive and then cut out, basically turning it into a giant sticker. I made the background separately, by painting a gradient onto the background and collaging on differently colored/painted mulberry and rice paper that I had cut into various shapes. It was a bit of an experiment since I felt it didn’t need much of an illustrated background and might be better with something a bit more abstract. I’m happy with how it turned out, the paper collage provides nice texture contrast to the pen and ink that I enjoy. Hope you enjoy it too!
