Monotype Series – Drifting Raincoat

For the last couple of months or so, I’ve been working on a series of original monotypes created with a Gelli plate. Gelli plate allows me to create monotypes that use the same drawing for the outline, which I can back-paint (color in) differently, then add details to each one, making them a unique original even though they share the same beginning outline.
I’d say these can be compared with a block print or silkscreen print that has been highly embellished or customized, so they are original handmade artworks in the Fine Art print genre (not to be confused with reproduction giclée type prints that come out of a printer).
I’ve decided to make the first series mounted to 8″ X 10″ panel. They’re gallery-depth (1.5″), and the sides are collaged with paper complementary to the main piece. They’re varnished and ready to hang. This is a limited edition of 12, which I will release incrementally. These are the first four.
To me, even though they share the same base outline, each one has its own personality, so I also gave each one a sub-name to go along with the series name.

I’ve also got a couple other similar monotypes in progress, such as these which I created using a gelli plate and various home-made cloud stencils.
