New Stuff and Change of Plan

Official still store is still open, but now it’s on eBay

(TL;DR I Decided I didn’t want to manage an ecommerce website so I’m switching my art store over to eBay, scroll down to the bottom for links to new artworks for sale)

So, originally I wanted to have my own ecommerce website here on poxodd.com to save on fees and have more options and control over the shopping experience. I’ve tried various ways of making my own ecommerce website over the years, such as Magento (too complicated) and Shopify (too basic without subscription based plugins) and most recently decided to use Woocommerce since it’s WordPress based and I already had this blog.

Well, what I’ve learned from this is that having one’s own website is a fair bit of work, and probably just… more work than I want to be doing. Make-your-own ecommerce websites tend to be super basic with hardly any functionality on their own, so you have to add plugins. While there are plenty of plugins for Woocommerce that have a free version, to make fairly functional ecommerce website, a lot of plugins are required. This just gives more chance of things not working right. More chance of things going wrong in an update and more chance of issues from clashing plugins, not to mention more plugins tend to slow the site down. There are more reasons, but I’m going to resist going on about it because this post could get too long.

So I’ve decided that the eBay fees ARE worth it after all, it’s a solid website with a mobile app that’s overall way better of a platform than mine was for ecommerce. I still have Etsy which I’m not getting rid of, but I had to choose between Etsy or eBay to be my main outlet for selling since I can only post the original artworks in one place at a time. I decided to go with eBay mostly because I prefer using it over Etsy. Not only that, but I have much more of a reputation there already. Oh, and also, last year I got a random box from eBay in the mail out of nowhere. Turns out it was a 40lb box of eBay branded shipping supplies for free (probably a couple hundred dollars worth of supplies that I’ll mostly be able to use)! They didn’t explain why they sent the supplies, I had to look it up on the internet to find out that they sent some of these boxes out to random sellers to promote their International Shipping Program. So I got lucky I guess! Gotta, get back to selling more on eBay so I can use those supplies up (I’m falling right into their ‘evil’ plan, for us both to make more money, oh no!).

I set up an eBay store so that I have a nice place to point to for people who want to buy my stuff, check it out!

I also added “Lenticular” and “The Usual Rival” originals which I just finished putting the finishing touches on so now they’re ready for sale.

And if you’d like an open edition giclĂ©e print, those are available too!

Thanks for hanging in there with me through all the changes!

Oh and by the way, I’m keeping up with my PoxArt News blog and Art Supplies blogs, so this website is still a good place to stop by for all things Poxodd.
